WHAT IS FIMI SOFTWARE?

With this software two folders or drives can be synchronized, while being encrypted. FiMi watches data changes in real time but it does not keep scanning your HDD. This program catches the operation system kernel I/O events.
This program keeps track of changes in the source folders, but only according to the filters (e.g. only .doc and .odt files) and makes copies of them into the chosen destination folder, keeping the original folder structure and using encryption.

What are the usual methods and disadvantages of usual backup?

You can buy plenty of software that can make backups of a source (folders, drives) from time to time. The biggest disadvantage of these programs is that they only backup after a period of time so every modification made in the meantime are lost in case of a crash. Usually a whole day’s or week’s work can be lost, as most of these programs are set to nightly or weekend backup, because of the excess load of workstations and servers that can annoyingly slow down work. Usually, these programs save the whole source to a new folder which can easy lead to a lack of storage space.

What is new in FiMi that changes the world of backup?

After realizing these problems we have started developing a software that keeps continuous track of changes in the source and is able to make real-time and safe backups.

  • FiMi does not need to be installed, you just start it.
  • FiMi keeps continuous track of changes without constantly scanning files in the source and only makes a backup of modified files.
  • Running of FiMi is unnoticeable, it uses insignificant computer resources and it does not slow down or lock up the computer. (It uses WINAPI and works on data transport layer, freeing up the CPU).
  • If you prefer, you can set the program to delete files from the backup if you delete them from the source, it works basically as a drive mirror.
  • You can set how long after an event you want to make it in the backup. If you select 0, the program makes the changes instantly.
  • FiMi uses encryption. The backup can only be restored with FiMi and the given password.
  • If some files are locked by the system, you can set retry delay time and count.
  • FiMi is suitable for safely keeping a backup of either a student’s work on a pendrive or even data of a company.

Properties of FiMi

FiMi makes backup of given source to given path. Mirroring doesn’t mean necessary only copying but also encrypting. The program can use any path for backup, a hard drive, a network path or even a USB-drive. In companies you can collect all employee’s work in the same folder so you can keep track of all their work real-time.

You can set how deep you want to keep track of changes in the folder structure, what extensions or folder names should be backed up. There are multiple ways to do this, you can either put the wanted items in the ‘include’ list or you can put the unwanted items in the ‘exclude’ list. Instead of items, you can also use names, extensions, file sizes, etc.

Main functions in short

  • You can decide which folders to watch and not to watch, you can even exclude folders inside a folder that you want to backup.
  • You can set file extensions to watch.
  • You can set a maximal file size of watched items. This is particularly useful if you work with multimedia and you don’t want to backup large footages but only project files, or if employees use office software and you don’t want to backup videos, multimedia files.
  • You can include or exclude files or folders.
  • You can add your own password for data encryption. You can decrypt your data only with FiMi and your own password.
  • You can set the delay time of mirroring.
  • You can set a second delay and a retry count, if the source file is locked by the system.
  • You can turn on automatic mirroring or you can do it manually.
  • If you are using FiMi at first, you can make a full rebuild of the destination with original source folder structure and encrypt the files.
